Ubuntu with GNOME, 64-bitYou’ll need the computer’s administrator password
Do this on your child’s computer. Keep your phone handy: you’ll read the family code from it.

Steps

  1. Get your family code

On your phone or computer, sign in to DTEX Family, open Computers and choose Add a computer. Keep the 6-digit code on screen. It works once, for a few minutes.

  2. Open the download page on your child’s computer

In a web browser on your child’s computer, go to family.dtexsystem.com/download. It picks the right installer for that computer. Choose Download for Linux.

  3. Install the package

The download page offers one file for Intel or AMD processors and one for ARM, and opens on the one your computer needs. In a terminal, go to your downloads and run sudo apt install ./ followed by the file’s name. It asks for this computer’s administrator password and installs what DTEX Family needs. Then sign out and back in.

  4. Type the family code

In a terminal run sudo dtex-family-agent pair --server https://family.dtexsystem.com --code 123456 with your code in place of 123456. You can also choose Set up this computer from the DTEX Family icon in the top bar and type the code there.

  5. Choose who uses each account

Back on your phone or computer, the computer appears under Computers. For each account choose which child uses it, mark it as a parent’s own account, or mark it as shared.

  6. Your child sees the notice

The next time your child uses the computer, a short notice explains what DTEX Family does, and the shield appears next to the clock.

That’s it. You’ll start seeing your child’s day in DTEX Family shortly.

If something goes wrong

The code doesn’t work. Each code works once, for a few minutes. Open Add a computer again for a new one.

The package won’t install. DTEX Family is built for Ubuntu with GNOME, 64-bit. Check that you chose the package for your processor.

Nothing shows up for my child. Check that their account is assigned to them under Computers. Until you choose who uses an account, it isn’t recorded.
